Not quite as nice as being there, but none-the-less here's the track Crazy Birds (live at the Corner Hotel) from the recent Not Drowning Waving show at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne...

Come Around (cue 1)
Come Around (cue 2)
These tracks come to you by special request... Two musical cues, based on the Hotel Radio track 'Come Around' -- both taken from The Man Who Sued God soundtrack. These may have also found there way onto Home & Away, but never-the-less they certainly seem like perfect summer songs! Enjoy!

Message for Young and Old (Hotel Radio demo)
One of the first bands I ever saw, at the Cardigan Hotel in Carlton, was the legendary No Fixed Address, the Aboriginal band from Ceduna who had a hit with the song "We Have Survived." They were led by Bart Willoughby, drummer and vocalist.
Later on in life Bart formed Mixed Relations, and Not Drowning, Waving did a series of gigs with them at the Kakadu Club in Sydney. These were huge gigs, and I remember this cracking song "Message for Young and Old."
After I’d written the score for Tempted, there was a piece in it that involved a descending looped orchestral sample that for some reason led me to play the chords for "Message for Young and Old" over the top of it. When recording Hotel Radio, I was keen on roping in a few of my heroes to collaborate with Dave Mason from The Reels was one, Amanda Brown from the Go Betweens was , and Bart Willoughby was the third. Bart and I slowed down "Message for Young and Old"... A classic song with the extraordinary opening lyric "It’s a matter of opinion if you have a good life…" Tim Cole from NDW did the mix... I reckon its one of my favourite outcomes musically...
Haircut (unreleased Hotel Radio demo)
This was a failed attempt with Nick Littlemore, written at his house, drunk and pissed off with the fashion industry... But there’s something kinda fun and the right attitude is there... It’s the kind of song I’m happy to share with you in a Rare Audio kinda situation. Don’t judge it too harshly!

Well, it's been a while between updates, but this next installment is a treat indeed! Only available in demo form on the promotional-only release, "Mushroom Music Writer's Workshop 1998", the track Take It As Read is an unreleased gem of a song. Co-written by Shane Nicholson and featuring some fine vocal interplay between DB and Shane, this song begs for an official release...

Released in 1992 on the long out of print P.R.I.C.S. "Covered" compilation, David's cover of The Only Ones 1978 ode to heroin addiction, Another Girl, Another Planet is a true rarity. P.R.I.C.S. (Performers Releasing Information About Clean Syringes) was established in 1989 in the Melbourne area with the goal of educating the public to safe sex and safe drug use through grass roots performances in schools, pubs, refuges, festivals and conferences. The 'usual suspects' also involved with the compilation included Rebecca Bernard, Rob Craw, Helen Mountfort, Shane O'Mara, Kerri Simpson and more.

In September of 2001, David Bridie acted as musical director for the Yeperenye Festival in Alice Springs. This cultural event, directed by Rachel Perkins, brought together indigenous people from all over Australia and featured an enactment of the Caterpillar Dreaming of the Arrente people from around Alice Springs. Yeperenye Dreaming, Part 1 was one of several musical cues created for the event. The piece was a collaboration with Arrente elder, Max Stuart, who recently had a film made about his life entitled, "Black and White" starring Trainspotting actor Robert Carlisle.

This version of Waiting is also unreleased. It was written for the Rachel Griffith's short film "Tulip" starring Bud Tingwell and a stubborn cow. The version used in the film was sung by a female voice - but in this version DB has the honors. The lyrics are taken from a poem by Christina Georgina Rossetti. The tune is a rehash of Another Pond off the Not Drowning, Waving album by the same name.

Crow is an unreleased song that evolved from an instrumental piece called "The Sleep of Rhythm", found on the "Projects" CD. Crow was a favourite of David Bridie & long-time collaborator, John Phillips. It was slated to appear on the long-rumored much-delayed "Projects 2" CD. Many of the songs from the DUMB sessions were later released on David's solo albums in re-recorded and very different forms... Look for some of these original versions in the coming months!
